What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry provides a safe and comfortable experience for patients to get the care they need and want. We use oral medication (pills) which allow us to customize the sedation to the patients anxiety level and medical history allowing the patient a comfortable, relaxing and safe experience.

What Patients are Appropriate for Sedation Dentistry?

  • Patients with anxiety.
With oral sedation, patients do not remember much about the procedure (if anything). Their anxiety often falls to a very low level and they become a relaxed patient.

  • Patients who have put off needed treatment, or who were unable to follow through with their treatment plan(s).

  • Patients who suffer from jaw soreness or have small mouths.

These patients can comfortably be treated for several hours. The sedation medication has  muscle relaxation properties. By using dental sedation in combination with frequent resting time, patients can have extensive treatment completed in one visit comfortably. Patient's experience little to no jaw soreness post-treatment.

  • Patients who have a sensitive gag reflex.

Many patients avoid the dentist for years due to embarrassment. With sedation dentistry patient's can have their periodontal (gums), surgical, restorative (fillings and crowns) and cosmetic (i.e. veneers) dentistry work done, often times in one appointment.

  • Patients with physical limitations such as back or neck problems.

Sedation Dentistry helps to relax patients who may have chronic back or neck problems. These patients can comfortably sit in the chair for lengthy procedures and usually experience little or no post-operative back or neck soreness.

Side Effects?

Dry mouth and hiccups are common side effects. After sedation dentistry, you may not remember much of the appointment
and will likely experience less soreness following treatment.
